We'll go through some recommendations for the most well-liked email providers, but there are two pointers that ought to apply to just about every service out there:
- First, add the email address of the sender to your contacts or address book. This notifies your email provider that you are interested in the emails of a specific sender. Add "support@parqex.com" to your contacts, for example, if you always want to receive ParqEx emails.
- Second, if a message still ends up in spam, navigate to your email client's spam folder, select the message you don't consider spam, and click "Not Spam" (or a similarly labeled button). Your email client will learn about your choices as you do this.
Here are some additional suggestions for marking messages as legitimate in Gmail, Outlook, and Yahoo.
Gmail
To prevent future messages from being marked as spam, add the sender to your contacts list.
To do this in Gmail, move your mouse cursor over the sender's name at the top of the email message. When the card appears, select "Add to contacts."
Let's assume that one of the sender's emails was already classified as spam. Open the email that was forwarded to spam in Gmail. The "Not Spam" button is located at the top of the email; click it if you haven't already taken it out of your spam folder.
Microsoft Outlook
There is a special option in the Microsoft Outlook desktop program (not to be confused with Outlook.com, which is described further below) that prevents emails from being marked as spam. Click the "Junk" button in the Delete section of the ribbon and then select "Never Block Sender."
Outlook.com
Emails from your contacts are important to Outlook.com, you can simply add an email address to your contacts list. In the future, emails from that sender should not be flagged as spam.
To do so, open an email from that sender and look for the sender's email address near the top of the message. When you move your mouse over the sender's name or email address, a pane will appear. Click the "..." menu button and then "Add to Contacts." Fill in the contact's information and then click "Save" to save the email address to your contacts.
While Outlook.com will prioritize emails from your contacts, if they appear unusually spammy, they may be routed to spam. If emails continue to be routed to your spam folder despite adding the email address to your contacts, you can use the "Safe Senders" list to completely bypass the spam filter.
To do so, navigate to the gear menu in the top right corner of the Outlook.com website and select "View All Outlook Settings." In the left pane, select the "Junk Email" option. Add senders to the "Safe senders and domains" list to prevent Outlook from sending their emails to your spam filter.
Yahoo! Mail
Add a sender to your contacts in Yahoo! Mail, and their emails will no longer be routed to spam.
Open an email from that sender, hover your mouse over the sender's email address at the top of the email, and then click "Add to contacts." Fill in the contact's information and then click "Save."
You can almost always prevent emails from being sent to spam by simply adding the sender to your address book or contacts for services and email clients not mentioned here.
If your email service allows you to mark emails as "Not Spam," "Remove From Spam," or something similar, you can do so as well. It is, however, generally preferable to add a sender to your contacts. That gives your email service a clearer indication that you want to see emails from that sender.
